This is a picture looking northwest towards the Bitterroot Mountains through the swampy area in the wildlife refuge. The refuge serves as a habitat for 80% of the birds in western Montana. Right now in late August, western Montana is very dry and fires are a serious threat, however the wildlife refuge is wet and abundant with water. It was truly beautiful. We will definitely go back for some of the nature trails.
